Red Seal

LiUNA Local 1611 in cooperation with SkilledTradesBC has obtained Red Seal certification for the trade designation of Construction Craft Worker (CCW). LiUNA Training PLUS is the only approved Union training provider to offer this certification in BC and the Red Seal certification is recognized Canada-wide.

Construction Craft Worker Apprenticeship training is being offered for anyone who is either interested in joining the trade or is fairly new performing CCW work.

The apprenticeship training is offered at two levels:

• Level 1: 0-2000 CCW scope field hours.

• Level 2: 2001-4000 CCW scope field hours.

Each level consists of 120 hours (4 weeks) of technical training offered by Training PLUS. The training consists of both classroom theory-based and practical training.

CCW training content as well as the required scope of knowledge and field experience consists of the following:

• Use of Tools & Equipment

• Material Handling

• Site Work

• Scaffolding & Access Equipment

• Concrete Work

• Masonry Work

• Utility and Pipeline Work

• Roadwork
  

LiUNA Training PLUS offers a refresher course for any member in good standing who is looking to challenge the Red Seal exam. In order to challenge the Red Seal exam, a challenger must have achieved the following:

• 6,OOO hours performing CCW-related work

• 70% of the scope of the breadth of what CCWs perform

If the hours worked as a CCW are LiUNA Local 1611 hours, Training PLUS has the ability to access those hours in order to verify them. If the hours are worked with other Unions or with non-Union companies, participants will need to have Employer Declaration forms signed, which Training PLUS can provide upon request.

For CCW Apprenticeship training, all training is free for members of LiUNA Local 1611 who are in good standing. For any member not in good standing or for any non-member wanting to enroll in the training, the costs are as follows:

• Level 1 CCW Apprenticeship Program - $3,000 CDN

• Level 2 CCW Apprenticeship Program - $3,300 CDN

These tuition fees will cover all costs for training, examination fees, materials, PPE, etc. The only additional costs borne to the participants are providing their own CSA approved steel-toed work boots and weather/work appropriate clothing.

For any member wanting to challenge the CCW exam and enroll in the CCW Refresher course, there is no charge. There is a $120 examination fee that will be covered one time for each member by Training PLUS. Any member needing to take the exam more than once, will need to pay the $120 examination fee for every additional attempt.

Non-members or members not in good standing are not eligible to enroll in the CCW Refresher course with LiUNA Training PLUS.

All tuition or additional examination fees must be paid to LiUNA Training PLUS at least 14 days prior to the start of any course offering and must be paid by cheque. Cheques must be made payable to CSW Training Society with CCW Training being written on the memo line.
