How the LiUNA-Medaca partnership helps you
rAPID ACCESS TO PSYCHIATRIC CARE
Medaca provides early access to a network of psychiatrists. Members typically receive a psychiatric consultation within 15 business days.
CARE IN COLLABORATION WITH YOUR PROVIDER
Medaca psychiatrists collaborate with your primary care provider (Family Doctor) to support coordinated care. After the assessment, Medaca sends a report including recommendations for treatment to your primary care provider. The Medaca psychiatrist communicates with your provider to review follow-up care. Your primary care provider is responsible for any ongoing treatment.
CONVENIENT, PRIVATE AND SECURE - VIRTUAL CARE ONLY
All services are delivered through secure video or phone appointments, allowing members to access timely and confidential care no matter where they live or work.
EARLY SUPPORT MAKES A DIFFERENCE
This program focuses on early intervention, helping address mental health concerns sooner and supporting recovery, return to health, and return to productive living and working.
What to expect
As part of the Medaca program, you may be asked to participate in some or all of the following:
Complete a secure online health questionnaire
Attend a telemedicine appointment with a psychiatrist or other mental health professional
Reconnect with your primary care provider to review recommendations
Attend a follow-up telemedicine appointment with the same Medaca specialist, if required
Following the assessment, Medaca provides a detailed report outlining diagnosis and treatment options to your primary care provider. Your primary care provider remains a key part of your treatment plan, supported by Medaca’s psychiatric expertise.
Our shared goal
Medaca’s goal is to work together with you and your primary care provider to help you understand your mental health condition, receive appropriate treatment, and recover. Mental health conditions can be successfully treated, and this program is designed to help you feel well again and return to healthy, productive living and working.

Frequently asked questions
What if I don’t have a family doctor?
Medaca can still complete the assessment and will connect with your walk-in clinic physician, nurse practitioner, or virtual doctor, if available.
Is the information confidential?
Yes. All care is delivered using a secure telemedicine platform, and personal health information is protected under privacy legislation.
Will LiUNA receive a copy of my report?
No. Medaca only provides a detailed report to your primary care provider (family doctor) following the assessment.
What does the assessment consist of?
The assessment is a conversation with a psychiatrist designed to help understand your mental health. It starts with introductions to help you feel comfortable, followed by questions about your medical history, current symptoms, work situation, and lifestyle. The psychiatrist will then share their initial thoughts and discuss possible next steps, which may include medication, therapy, or practical strategies to help manage stress, especially at work.
Do I need to have anything prepared?
Yes. Please have a list of any current medications and supplements along with information on any treatment you have received. You will be asked to share your medical history and any symptoms you’ve been experiencing, including issues like anxiety, depression, concentration difficulties, or sleep changes. This information helps the psychiatrist gain a full understanding of your overall health.
How long is the assessment?
The assessment is typically 45 minutes to 1 hour.
